ULEB, the Union of European Basketball Leagues, held a General Assembly last Friday, January 26th in Brussels, Belgium. The Assembly was chaired by ULEB president Tomas Van Den Spiegel and welcomed representatives from the Spanish, Polish, French, Greek, Belgian, Dutch, German, Italian, Israeli leagues and from the VTB United league.

ULEB and its members approved the relocation of its offices from Barcelona to Brussels. President Van Den Spiegel: "It is stated in ULEB bylaws that ULEB office needs to be held in the residing country of its president but we all agreed on the fact that Brussels might also be a good location for ULEB's future as an international organization. Brussels is still considered the capital of Europe and is home too many governing bodies and other stakeholders within the sports landscape".

The participants thoroughly discussed current sensitive topics such as the international calendar and the lack of predictability for club teams to know what the near future will hold for them concerning the European club competitions. President Van Den Spiegel: "ULEB and its members agreed that it is necessary to schedule meetings on very short notice with FIBA, ECA and the responsible European governing political bodies to find solutions to these current problems. These solutions are very important in order to have a brighter mid and long-term future for the European club basketball at a domestic level."

Representatives of the Leagues also took time to debate on future uniform player eligibility, relations with the players associations and enforcing UBE, the relaunched European Union of Basketball Players, as its official talks partner for player issues.
